No iPhone recall, says Jobs at Apple press conference

Steve Jobs announces no iPhone recall at Apple press conference\

When a possible flaw was reported iPhone 4.0, an Apple press conference was called for. An iPhone recall won’t be happening. However, iPhone 4.0 owners can sign up to get a free case for their iPhones to fix the antenna problem. Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, talked about that issue along with some other things at the press conference.

It’s called Antennagate

A partial transcript is available on the Wall Street Journal site. Steve Jobs began by saying the problem is endiemci to smartphones and not just to the iPhone 4.0. He pointed out that other smartphones, like the Blackberry, have the same problem. Jobs did confess the iPhone 4.0 did drop less than one more call per 100 calls than the iPhone 3GS.

What’s Apple doing about it?

You will find bumpers you are able to buy, but not enough of them. So Apple is giving a free case for everyone who bought the iPhone 4.0. You can get the free case until Sept 30, and you also can get a refund if you bought the bumpers. However, if you bought a third party case for iPhone 4.0 are out of luck. For the next 30 days, individuals who still aren’t happy with the iPhone 4.0 with or without the free case from Apple can return the phone for a full refund.

What Antennagate was all about

The gist of Antennagate was that a common imperfection in smartphones was found within the iPhone 4.0. The difference between it and the previous iPhone is negligible. Essentially, what happened was that a small amount of people (just more than half of one percent actually complained to Apple about the phone) noticed this flaw. The media then exploited it.

Rest assured, Apple is working on it, as they spent $ 100 million designing the antenna to start with. AT and T reported fewer than 2 percent of iPhone 4.0 buyers returned their phone, but 6 percent of iPhone 3GS buyers did.
