When a possible flaw was reported iPhone 4.0, an Apple press conference was called for. There can be no iPhone recall. However, iPhone 4.0 owners can sign up to get a free case for their iPhones to fix the antenna problem. Apple CEO Steve Jobs talked about it at length along with some other things at the Apple press conference.
Hardware issues dubbed Antennagate
A partial transcript is available on the Wall Street Journal site. Steve Jobs began by saying there is no Antennagate, and the problem is not unique to the iPhone 4.0. There was analysis of other phones with the same problem. Jobs did confess the iPhone 4.0 dropped more calls than the iPhone 3GS, but less than one more per 100 calls.
What will Apple do over it?
You will find bumpers you can buy, but not enough of them. You can get a free case from Apple if you bought an iPhone 4.0. The offer could be good until Sept 30, and anybody who bought bumpers can get a refund for the bumpers and a free case. Those who bough 3rd party cases for their iPhone 4.0 are out of luck. Any person within the next 30 days who wants to return their iPhone 4.0 can get a refund for the phone.
What got Antennagate on the radar
What happened in Antennagate was that first, a design flaw common to all smartphones was discovered within the iPhone 4.0. There’s barely any difference between it and also the last iPhone. Half of one percent of iPhone buyers complained about the flaw. The media then exploited it.
Apple is working on fixing it and spent $ 100 million designing the antenna to start with. AT and T reported to Apple that less than 2 percent of iPhone 4.0 buyers have returned their phones, compared with 6 percent of iPhone 3GS buyers.
