Pop Tart Store- Building your own Pop-Tarts

In Times Square, the Pop Tart shop, called Pop-Tarts World, opened up to huge fanfare. The shop the pastry offers Pop-Tarts inspired cuisine and Pop-Tarts vending machines. At $ 1,000 per square foot, Times Square rent is a huge investment for the company, which has not yet determined whether the Pop-Tart shop is going to be a permanent fixture.

Inside the Pop-Tarts store

The cuisine offered up at Pop-Tarts World is a little taste of anything. At the Pop-Tarts store, you are able to get Pop-Tarts celery, Pop-Tarts cinnamon rolls, and even Pop-Tarts sandwiches. A vending machine lets you create your own 12 pack of Pop-Tarts flavors, for $ 1 per pastry. You can also build your own Pop-Tart, including just about any topping or flavor you can think of.

Pop Tart store for brand visibility

Kellogg’s decided to open the Pop-Tarts store in Times Square because they feel it is a “mature brand”. The toaster treat is halfway between a breakfast bar and a pastry, and sales lately have been relatively flat. Pop-Tarts sold $ 481 million worth of the pastries in 2009.

Baking your own Pop-Tarts

You do not have to be within the vicinity of Times Square to get customized Pop-Tarts. Making your own Pop-Tarts is not only easy, but it can be healthier and less expensive. You can avoid the high fructose corn syrup and make your own for about 20 cents per Pop-Tart. In a bowl, combine 2 cups of flour with 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 cup butter, 1 large egg, and a few tablespoons of milk. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut rectangles out. Spread just about any filling you want on half of the rectangles. Use the other half of the dough to top off the filling, and seal it by pressing a fork around the edges. Fridge the filled dough when you preheat the oven to 350. Bake the Pop-Tarts for 20 to 25 minutes.
