7 Easy Tricks To Prevent Car Theft

Vehicle theft rates have been dropping, by as much as 18 percent over the last two years. Vehicle thefts do still happen though. It is essential to take a few steps to lower the chance your car can be stolen as much as possible.

1- Never leave your automobile running

When you leave your automobile running, even with the doors locked, you are inviting thieves. Even if your stop at the ATM or coffee shop can be only a few minutes, turn off your vehicle. The only time you should use remote start systems with your car is if it is safely locked behind a fence. Some states made it illegal to leave your auto running unattended.

2- Always lock the doors on your car

No matter what, lock the doors to your vehicle. Over half of all stolen cars are unlocked. If you aren’t going to lock the doors, take your keys with you out of the car.

3-Make sure to park in well lit areas

Try and park in well lit parking lots with cameras or an attendant.

4- Never keep your title within the auto

Don’t keep your title within the auto although you will need to keep the registration in it. If there is a title in the automobile, it is very easy to sell it.

5- Unhook the car battery

If you will be leaving your automobile parked for a week or more, disable the auto. You are able to either unhook the battery or remove the ignition fuse. Your automobile can be a lot more difficult to steal and your battery will stay more charged.

6-Hide any valuable items in the car

Make certain valuable items are hidden. Never leave anything valuable in plain sight – you can put it within the trunk or under a covered blanket in the back.

7- Close all the windows

Even during hot summers, when it is tempting to leave your windows open, do not. It is much easier to access a vehicle when the windows are left open.
