Tow Bar Basics – Four-wheeled car towing

There are hundreds of reasons you may find yourself needing to tow a automobile. Getting two different to one place requires work. Towing can conserve you time, money, fuel and stress. Using the right tow bar after picking out the right one and installing it is much simpler than imagined.

Tow bar background

Tow bars attach to cars creating a trailer. Rather than loading a car on a trailer or using a two-wheel system, a tow bar turns your automobile itself into a trailer. The two bars you have to choose form are collapsible and rigid. Rigid tow bars are a little harder to put together but cots less. It is easier to put together a collapsible tow bar but costs some more money. Either way, a tow bar attaches to the front of a automobile and is intended to attach to a towing hitch on the back of the towing car.

First there’s rigid tow bars

A-frame intended rigid tow bars are made from strong aluminum or steel. You may have to put a specialty base on the automobile you want to tow as some rigid tow bars require this. The tow bar has to be very carefully installed in its position which is why it has a rigid design. The simple design, though, means it is much less costly. The rigid tow bar has electronic hookups for legal towing that are easier to install.

Then there’s the collapsible tow bars

If you’re going to tow a lot, use a collapsible tow bar. When driving, a collapsible tow bar starts up itself and auto-centers. A collapsible tow bar is easier to remove. The cost of collapsible tow bars also tend to be a little bit higher. Start with a rigid tow bar if you do not know what the extent of your tow bar experience can be.
